Call To Artists
Sanford Art Walk

While not a club event we wanted to let you know the Historic Sanford Welcome center is asking for submissions for their Art Walk Show on Saturday, June 16th.  This months theme is "Kaleidoscope" so submissions should be colorful.  To submit you will need to follow the guidelines at Artwork Application, Rules and Guidelines  The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 5:00 pm.  The items will remain on display in the welcome center until the setup for the following month.

This is short notice, but the theme for July will be "Aperture" and as the name implies submissions must be photographs.
Call To Artists
Snap! Orlando

Again not a club event but the Snap! Downtown is also asking for submissions for their Summer 2018 show on Saturday, July 20th.  They are looking for photographs that  "tell a story, or a moment captured. A place, a time, a situation, a feeling." To submit you will need to follow the guidelines at Call for Entry  The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 6:00 pm.  The items will remain on display in the welcome center until the setup for the following month.

President's Message

Creativity takes courage.

 Henri Matisse

From time to time, we send out open calls for photography. Some are for our club, such as those for our city hall display, and others are for events in our surrounding community. These calls can feel a little uncomfortable. How do I know what they are looking for? Do I want someone judging my work? It's sort of like those dreams where you show up to work in your underwear!

Do you know what happens in the midst of that discomfort? A lot of growth! Sometimes you'll find that it sparks your creativity, other times you'll find your skill set expanding, and often it will bring new opportunities for friendship and connection.

I'd like to challenge you to submit your work to at least 1 call this summer. I want to challenge each of
you to find a venue, a competition, or a call to enter. There are all kinds of opportunities out there
locally, nationally, and even world wide. I love seeing your work at our sharing meetings and I would
be so proud to see your work displayed and published where more people can enjoy your talents.

Field Trip - June 16
9:30 am - 12:00 pm

On June 16th, the Club is headed to DeLand for a two-hour guided pontoon boat excursion at Blue Heron River Tours. As stated on their website, we'll be heading south on the St. Johns' "quiet and shallow backwater areas where wildlife viewing is best."  It'll be a great opportunity to get outdoors with some friends to capture the local fauna or flora or whatever you like.  The plan is to meet at the Blue Heron by 9:40 am (their requirement) for the 10 am tour.  If we have at least 10 people sign up, we get the boat to ourselves for $20 per person, which is less than their regular rates.

After our two-hour tour, anyone who's interested can join us for a delicious made from scratch lunch at  The Table restaurant that is close by in downtown DeLand.   RSVP the club if you'll be going, and include how many (up to one guest is OK) and if you'll be staying for lunch. Contact the club if you have any questions.

Photo Review Meeting

Monday, June 18
 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Bring 5-7 photos from recent events or any other pictures you would like to share. Be sure to use a labeled folder with the date on a thumb drive and rename the photo files with your initials and a number (ex: OP-1, OP-2, etc.) for the photos you want to share. This will make it easier for our projectionist.

If you have photos that you would like help with, bring them with you!  If there is time, our club members can give you pointers on what to do.

Meeting
Photographing Fireworks

Monday, July 2
 7:00 - 9:00 pm

4th of July is just around the corner, which means Fireworks!  The July 2rd presentation will be on photographing fireworks.  Fellow member Paula Ritchie will be giving tips and tricks, what equipment is needed, camera settings and post processing tips.

July Field Trip - What Is It?
Time:  Anytime - July 16 Photo Review
Where:  Anywhere

Every summer we take a break from the heat one month and do an "on your own" expedition.  You get to plan and organize your own field trip around your home, your work or anyplace you happen to go before our July Photo Review.  Your mission is to find common, everyday objects and photograph them in a way that it isn't quite so easy to figure out just what that item is.  Here are four examples from last year but we're not telling what they are.  You might take a photo of a gadget that no-one knows what it is or zoom in for a detail shot to try and disguise something we would all recognize if we saw the whole item.  For inspiration you might want to check out the Zenfolio Field Trip galleries from 2017, 2016, 2014 or 2013 for some inspiration.  There is already a gallery on Zenfolio for 2018 in case you want to post some of your shots in advance and all of the photos shown at the review will be added after the meeting.  At our meeting we will have an informal competition to see who can best figure out "What Is It."  If you have a very tricky shot that even after you tell us what it is we won't be able to imagine it, include a shot of the whole item but be sure to name in so it comes after the What Is It shot.

City Hall Gallery Entries

"Oviedo Volunteer Events"

Deadline: Wednesday, Aug 22

The Oviedo Photo Club has proudly displayed photographs in the Oviedo City Hall since 2014. We have ten photographs in City Hall and eight in the Annex next door. Five photos are selected for each new theme by our curator. They will replace five of the City Hall photos and those five photos will be moved to the Annex. The matted photos removed from the annex will then be provided to the photographers for their personal collection.

Our theme for the next round of photos in City Hall is "Oviedo Volunteer Events". The photos must have been taken after January 1, 2017 and at an event covered by the club. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at midnight. If your photo is selected you will need to provide a title and the name of the event it was taken at.

Photos may be either landscape or portrait but the ratio should be 11 x 14. Please submit full size files at 300 dpi.  Photos will not be disqualified if they do not fit this ratio but if they are chosen for the gallery they will be cropped or resized to fit this ratio.

To take part simply click here to send an email to the club and let us know you wish to participate. You will be provided a link to a Dropbox folder to upload your photos. You may add up to 5 photos to your Dropbox folder. You may change your photos at anytime before the deadline. Once you have submitted all of your photos you may wish to email the club to verify the files transferred properly. Before being submitted to the curator the photos will be renamed so the photographer is anonymous.

After the deadline you will receive an email with a screenshot showing the photos you submitted. Other members will not see the photos submitted unless they are selected for display by the curator. If your photograph is selected, there is a $25.00 charge for the print, mat and backer board. All photos will be printed by the club for a consistent appearance.
